Located on the edge of the Ring of Brodgar, the South Knowe is the smallest of the mounds surrounding the ring. It measures 6 feet across by six feet high. According to one observer, it is a "topped mound of earth and stones with a "shallow" depression from which projects...an irregular shaped stone. As the Ring of Brodgar site was levelled off in antiquity the stone was either brought in from elsewhere later or is an original feature later covered by the mound..."
